[As sharp as his tone is, she's assuming this is because of the Joker's post, so she can't help but be a little shocked. Is he... actually warning her? Trying to help her? Wow!]
Cloud and I are in the tunnels. In the hospital. [There's a slight pause, and then:] We're going to see if there's anything in the vents here. We'll be fine.
Is that Royce he hears? Is that Royce actually being worried about them? Are they actually in a frozen over hell? Has the sun died and plunged the entire world into the next ice age?
And his name was even included. What do you know? He's just going to come up behind Tifa, speaking only once she's finished.]
Didn't think you cared so much. [Sarcasm! It's the best way to deal with impending doom.] You doing okay?
[ Well, that's annoying. They're just assuming things left and right!! His scowl is practically audible. ]
I don't care. I owed you one after all of the things you managed to shove into my bag the last time I saw you. Now I don't. Take the advice or leave it, I'm done. [ He manages to sound super disinterested, anyway. ] I'm not the one actively looking for a bomb, so I'd say I'm completely fine.
[ And is steadfastly ignoring the fact that all those dreams happened. Yep. ]
[UGGGHHHH. Tifa lets out a long-suffering sigh. Think of Vincent! Think of Cid! Think of how frustrating they can be, she tells herself. Royce might just be worse. On her end, Tifa elbows Cloud gently and gives him a look. Stop antagonizing Royce, Cloud.]
We appreciate it, Duster. We'll be careful, but if we might be able to deactivate the bombs if we find them.
[What is it about him that always seem to attract the most difficult, stubborn and hard to get along with people? Is he wearing a sign that says he has infinite patience? Or maybe there's neon above his head saying he's willing to give more people a chance. Or an aura that says he's the type of person you want on your side.
Why him? Why can't he just find one normal friend?
There's a small sound at the elbow to his ribs, like air leaving lungs too quickly, along with a slight roll of his eyes. This is how he makes friend's Tifa don't cut off his mojo.]
And if you don't find them, you'll explode. Along with everybody else in the area.
[ See, they're not stupid - Royce has an amount of respect for both of them, and that's why this is so baffling to him. What they should do is get out of the tunnels. Everybody should. You don't play with people like the Joker - you outplay them. ]
You're being needlessly stupid, which I guess I shouldn't be surprised by.
[She hesitates, trailing off, shifting in place uncomfortably before she continues, voice a little quieter.]
What about everyone else in the tunnels? Someone needs to help them.
[And how many people had died from those bombs she'd helped set? Disarming the ones the Joker planted wouldn't come close to making up for that, but it's something.]
[It's a harsh reality, one filled with the painful knowledge that if they should fail, if they shouldn't find anything at all, the consequences may be dire. But if they do nothing, if they simply leave without looking back and it should happen, they would have to continue on knowing there may have been a chance, may have been a way to save those who had been lost. Even with their own lives at risk, it was worth taking that shot.
Glove fingers come to rest upon the small of Tifa's back, a silent form of reassurance, an acknowledgement that he knows, that he understands. It wouldn't fully atone for what they had done, and for what had been done in retaliation. But it was a start, a beginning.]
Tell them to leave. [ Okay, now he's really baffled. ] The obvious solution is have everybody move out of the tunnels. Instead of blindly slapping from wall to wall trying to find something without any sort of reasonable plan.
[ He doesn't get the self-sacrificing thing. Why would anybody do that? ] If you're so determined to help, move people. Don't waste your time.
[ Royce is incredibly exasperated, and he almost throws his hands up in the air as a sign of how much. They can't see him, but hey. Instead, they get scathing: ] It's literally your funeral.
[ As well as a CLICK. He'll catch the two of you on the flip side. You know. Post death. ]
