[ It's not long after he hangs up with Sephiroth that he... Well, composes himself first. But he can't just waffle around. This is important for her to know. He can't imagine what would happen if he didn't get a hold of her until it was too late.
No matter how much he tries to settle himself though, he can't hide the edge to his voice when he speaks. And Tifa might or might not notice that the conversation's filtered, too. ]
Hey, Tifa? It's Zack. How's.. it going over there?

Morning 58, maybe about an hour after the obit goes up; @CaptSteveRogers; voice
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
[Steve lies curled up on the big bed, staring at today's obit and feeling physically and emotionally miserable. He thinks about all the other obits. So many deaths in only two months. And if what Jim says is true... this has happened before, with so many other people, over and over, at least a hundred times....
Steve stares at the obit. He's selfishly grateful that he doesn't know any of the names. And then he feels guilty for feeling that way. He barely knows anyone yet, but others have been here longer. Probably someone knows these people, cares about these people.
He stares at the list of names, and... actually, 'Cloud' is familiar somehow. He thinks he's seen it on the network before... maybe... someone was looking for... him, her? Steve tries to think of who was asking around for people, besides England, and himself of course....
Oh. Oh hell. Steve swears under his breath (and tries to muffle the coughing fit this causes), scrolling through the network posts to the day he arrived, and... there it is. Tifa's first post, logging on to the network after her arrival and immediately asking about her friend Cloud.
His heart sunk down to around the area of his stomach, Steve rolls carefully out of bed—some of his campmates are awake but some are still asleep—and steals away to the bathroom, shutting the door behind him. He sits on the the toilet lid with his tablet and... God. What does he say.
After a moment he starts a voice message, even though his throat hurts like hell and he's a little hoarse.]
Tifa. Hey, it's Steve. I dunno if you're awake, or... [He coughs a few times.] ...Anyway, I uh. I saw the obituary list that just went up, and. ...Cloud's your friend, right? ...Do you wanna... are you OK? [Hell, what a stupid Goddamn question.] I just... thought I'd check in and see if, you know. ...If you need some company, I'm here.
[He winces because Goddamn, he is terrible at this, but sends the message anyway.]

[He misses traveling with people and he hasn't talked to Tifa in a while, so he's bugging her! Look, it's a Zell face.]
Yo! It's Zell. How have you been doing? [Giving a grin up until skittering is heard from some where off the feed.] I wound up in the house with the ghost cat, man. It's been a pain in the ass. [And then back to smiling.] Not much I can do bout that. I lived in a dorm, so I'm used to strange noises at random times. Anyways, I'm doing my stretches. Get back to me when you can, okay? Later!

[ Video is a definite no, and he can't type for shit right now. Voice isn't ideal, since he sounds godawful, but it'll have to do. ]
I saw your message. And I'm sure you know by now, but we're fine.
Just. Wanted to thank you for... f-for checking up on me.

Hey, Tifa?
You're super cool. Don't think I've said that enough, but it's true.

[Even if they are in the same house, he's going to send her a text.]
So, is Cloud your friend from your world or did you meet him through Zack?

[It's a little late to be contacting her, and under normal circumstances he probably wouldn't be. Then again, nothing about this situation had been normal so far. From the multitude of people who had seemingly known some previous version of him and who he had utterly no recollection of to the sudden appearance of the shadows that seemed to drift aimlessly from place to place.
It'd be good to hear her voice. To have something to center himself with after everything that had happened in the short span of time since his arrival.]
Hey, you doing okay?

[What's up, Tifa? Best you weren't expecting to hear from him again so soon, were you? He's just going to casually forward a screenshot of this to her. Learn to control your friends, Tifa.]
Friend of yours?
Friend of yours?
[ They'd been so awkward, her and Kunsel. There's no way he hasn't noticed it. Kuns is his best friend, after all. Between that and Tifa's weird body language around him, between the way she's suddenly gone quiet and dodged out of talking with him when possible, well...
It might be why he's seeking her out. Not that this is going to be a fun talk, but it needs to be done. Someone needs to say something. To the both of them. He's talked with one already. Now, it's... well.
Zack signalling her into another room that night. Hoping this isn't a bad idea. But... not like he has much other choice now. ]

Guess what?
[He's going to be sending a pic of him kissing Jim on the cheek.]
[He's going to be sending a pic of him kissing Jim on the cheek.]
Do you see all this weird fucking shit going down? I'm not going mental, am I?
[It's an innocent enough question to ask. Nathan looks tired and, for once, not even all that amused. If it was just somebody doing something stupid or being an ass, he'd laugh, but all this stabbing and dying and shitting all over each other? It's kind of fucking creepy. It's not that he necessarily wants to make sure she's okay, he just wants to...know that somebody around here hasn't lost their head.
Unfortunately, this message isn't the one that Tifa gets. Instead, she'll see Nathan on the floor, his arm outstretched for the tablet like he was barely able to reach her inbox in the first place. There's a look of panic on his face. A slow realization that something is happening to him--something out of his control--something that a quick death isn't going to fix for him. He opens his mouth to say something to her, maybe a cry for help? But his throat locks up. He makes some sort of barely audible, wet clicking noise as he struggles. And then his mouth foams. His eyes grow watery, and then the brightness in them that signifies an active mind begins to dull.
Is there anyone left in there? His movements become slack. It would almost be peaceful, if it weren't for the abnormal pace of his breath.]

Hey, just wanted to - check in, I guess.
[After recent events - all traces of it having disappeared from the network like they didn't all go crazy for a night, like they could sleep just fine, like Zach didn't bleed out - he feels like making sure people are okay.
Hermann would totally have laughed at him; why does he care? He's fine. But Zach doesn't want to be a piece of shit anymore, only out for himself. In a place like this, where there's only so many people he can talk to, he kinda needs to try, at least.]
Did anything weird happen to you? You okay?

[It's not long after lock down that he seeks her out, finding her tucked away in the kitchen of the rather large house they'd found themselves in for the night. It was so strange, seeing all of the different variety of houses this place offered. All in varying states of disarray, some only left half standing, as if a bomb or explosion had gone off inside or too near it. Some still pristine, as if the once inhabitants had simply grabbed what they could and left.
It had been a long and difficult few days for both of them. Seeing those things, hearing them, experiencing them, real or not, had taken it's toll. So when he finally speaks, it's quiet, voice gentle in a way it only ever is with her.]
Want some company?

Want some company?
So I have a present for you.
[Dramatic pause as Nathan lowers the camera down to his crotch, where a nice box is balanced delicately against his folded legs.]
...And yes, I solemnly swear my dick isn't in there.
[Or does he?]

[It's rather late into the evening when Cloud contacts her, having spent most of that time debating with himself weather doing so was really necessary. She was more than capable of taking care of herself - far more capable than most, considering she didn't rely on anything but herself in order to fight and do so well. But she was also still traveling with Nathan, which meant that she was likely reaching the edge of her patience.
Which meant he was likely going to have his work cut out for him calming her back down. But hey, what were friend's for?]
Think I could make use of those powers of yours again?

[Nothing about waking up was pleasant. Every bone was stiff, almost as if it had been frozen into place by lack of movement, each muscle ached, fighting against the chill that had settled into them. Pain pooled into his shoulder and hip where he had been come to rest upon the floor, head ringing as memories came flooding back. Wind still howled angrily outside, but the sky was steadily growing lighter through the icy pane of the nearby window. It was difficult to gauge the exact amount of time that had passed from that moment to this one, but considering just how cold and hungry he felt, it had certainly been over a day.
Bright blue eyes instantly searched the area surrounding him, recalling in his last waking moment's that she had been near him. A soft groan escapes his lips as he tries to push himself upwards, stopping a searing sting crawls upwards from the now opened wound on his wrist.
That was definitely not the most brilliant idea he'd ever had.]

[Kesara makes her appearance, blinking and rubbing her eyes, sad and tired and a little grayish-green around the edges. Her hair sticks out in all odd angles and may have flecks of dried blood in it. She is awake and coherent, though, so there are little victories to be had.]
Tifa? You wanted to talk to me...?
Tifa? You wanted to talk to me...?
[ Ring ring, here is a small, angry man calling Tifa directly after he wakes up from his dream. He knows it's going to sound crazy, because really, people don't just show up in dreams, but.
That was too real. And he's furious. Coldly so. ]

[And last but definitely not least, yet another person that he needed to apologize to for..just for everything.]
I messaged Cloud but I wanted to message you too. I hope you guys are okay and I'm sorry for...I'm just sorry.
Please be okay.

[Tifa.
Everything had come rushing back the moment he'd opened his eyes, every moment flashing rapidly within his memory. Bright eyes had rapidly searched through each and every drawer located within the cold storage, peering into each tiny window, opening each door, hoping that she'd awoken before him - or hadn't yet awoken. But she wasn't there.
She wasn't there.
It's only after a series of deep breaths that he finally locates his tablet and attempts to contact her, imagining that it would have been far too lucky for them to awake within the same location.
Only to not be able to feel the device within his hands. It tumbles and falls to the floor, clacking along the cement as he stands in shock, and it takes far too long to regain his composure, to lean downwards and retrieve it. To find the video function and restart the connection.
Voice quiet, barely above a whisper, camera barely aimed upon his face as he slumps against the furthermost wall next to the exit, head resting against the chilled surface that he could no longer feel.]
Hey. I'm back. I just - [Another deep breath, gaze carefully averting downwards.] I just need to know that you're alright.

is this a bad time?
i just kind of need to talk to someone
i know this is kind of fucking out of nowhere so dont worry if you cant talk or whatever

[Thank you, Captain Not-Invincible-But-Rather-Stupidly-Fucking-Obvious! He already saw her on the obituary post, like everyone else, so this is totally cool and fine. And he's already been an asshole, unsurprisingly, but conveniently he already seems to have forgotten that part.]
Did you miss me? Because I'd miss me. In fact I do most nights. And some days, even, when I'm not paying attention!
[Clearly someone is back to his old annoying self.]
