How did you meet up again?

We grew up together, but he left our hometown to join SOLDIER. We ran into each other again in Midgar.

[It's a pretty vague explanation, but getting into Cloud's trauma and how she actually found him would be pretty awful to do to him.]

How hard is it to get into Soldier anyways?
Cissnei was talking about how Shinra took in a lot of orphans
and they usually joined Soldier or the Turks.

[UGH CISSNEI. Zell, you are nicer than she is.]

It's hard. They're really picky about who they take. Most of the people who join up end up as regular soldiers and cadets. What about SeeD?

Yeah, it's pretty hard.
This year only four of us made the cut.
You have to complete the necessary training, take a written exam, and pass the field exam.

Wow! That's really impressive. How long did you have to train for?

A few years. Some people have trained longer!

What did you do, exactly? Once you passed?

Once we're SeeD, we are deployed around the world on missions.
My first mission was actually to help a rebel group.
They wanted the town free from Galbadia control.

[REBELS, HUH.]

What's Galbadia? Is that a corporation or a government?

A country ruled by a military dictatorship.
Their President was an arse.
We had to fight against them during the field exam, too.

How did you get assigned to that? Did they hire you, or did SeeD just decide to step in?

We got hired.
But Headmaster Cid also decided to step in.
He approved of the mission without waiting for approval.

That's amazing. No one would be able to do that where I'm from. ShinRa is too powerful.

Timber is the place fighting for independence.
We took out some soldiers stationed there for threatening a guy's kid and cat.
They can be a bunch of assholes.
Think winning the last war went to their heads.
Balamb Garden is located in neutral territory. We usually are hired on to combat against Galbadia soldiers from towns who can't really defend themselves.
That was our field exam before becoming SeeD.
We were dropped off at a city called Dollet and had to fight our way in.

I heard about what ShinRa did from Jim.
To your hometown. That's pretty messed up.

It wasn't just Nibelheim. They've done it to other towns, too, usually small ones that can't defend themselves. There was a nation called Wutai that ShinRa wanted to control, and they were destroyed for trying to remain independent.

ShinRa does remind me a lot of Galbadia Army.
It also reminds me of Balamb Garden.
I know they did terrible things and it's really messed up.
But my Garden almost went the same way if Norg stayed in power.
We kicked his ass.
Maybe you guys can do the same with ShinRa?
Kick the asshole that's in charge and change it.

All of the higher ups are that way. I think we need to destroy ShinRa and start over. It would be impossible to fix it.

There are some people from ShinRa that we both like.
I can't say I want it destroyed. Maybe I would feel different if I was from your world.
Kunsel told me they infuse people with Mako.
That's why they have glowing eyes.
I was wondering why your eyes didn't glow before then.
That seems pretty iffy. The mako thing.
I know my Garden is the only one that experiments with using summons with junction.

Zack and Kunsel are different from most of ShinRa. It might be hard for you to understand since you haven't see it, but the company hasn't done much good.

The mako thing is iffy, but the worst part is that they've forced those experiments on people.

I like Cissnei, too.
Still learning about Cloud. He seems pretty cool so far.
Yeah, I heard about the experiments.
They were trying to turn people into monsters. That's messed up.

[Cissnei is a Turk, like Reno and Rude and the rest, and "like" is about the farthest word from what Tifa feels for them. So she'll focus on Cloud, instead.]

Cloud isn't part of ShinRa anymore. Maybe you should talk to him about how he feels.

[She's not going to speak for him, but knowing how things panned out at home... Well, Kunsel bringing up Cloud as some sort of defense was weird enough, but now Zell is doing it, too. It's like they're assuming how Cloud feels just because he'd been a cadet what seems like a million years ago.]

Jim told you a lot, didn't he?

[Not that she minds, but if Jim told Zell everything that he knows, then she's just can't wrap her mind around how Zell could disagree. How anyone could disagree.]

Yeah, I think I will some day. After I know him better, you know?

[All Zell knows is Cloud works for ShinRa. No one told him about the experiments on Cloud and Cloud becoming a merc.]

He's my best friend.
He gave me a quick summary so I could understand all the craziness better.

It's okay. I don't mind. It's good for you to know.

[And easier than her telling him herself.]
